For some, a career can be more than just what you do for work. It can often be tied to your identity, self-worth and the way you see your future.
When work no longer feels right, or when change presents itself, it can bring up self-doubt, stress and uncertainty.
We often work with men who are questioning their career direction, navigating job changes, or facing the emotional impact of transitions like redundancy, burnout, or retirement. For many men, therapy starts with a practical problem: feeling stuck, overwhelmed by options, or unsure whether to stay or go. But underneath that are often deeper patterns, pressure to meet expectations, fear of failure, or confusion about what they actually want.
You might feel like you’ve outgrown your role, lost motivation, or become disconnected from what once mattered. Or perhaps you’re facing pressure to change careers and grappling with whether it’s too late. In some cases, a change has already happened – like leaving a job or retiring – and what you thought would be a relief has left you feeling adrift.
Therapy can offer a space to slow down. To separate your own voice from the noise of what others expect. And to work through the fears and doubts that come with change so you can move forward with more confidence.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

We support men to explore what’s working, what’s not, and what comes next. An openness to reflect, ask questions, and consider positive change tend to be reliable signs of progress to come to in session.
Some of the areas we commonly support men with include:
- Navigating decisions around staying, leaving, or starting again
- Building confidence to take a new path
- Understanding how self-doubt or perfectionism is getting in the way
- Working through feelings of failure, fear, or regret
Different Life Stages, Different Challenges
Career transitions look different depending on where you are in life. You might be in your 20s or 30s, questioning whether your job fits who you are, or feeling unsure how to move from study into meaningful work. You might be mid-career, dealing with burnout, or considering a shift after years in the same industry. Or you might be adjusting to retirement, grappling with the loss of structure, identity, and meaning that work once provided.
Career change may actually be less about work and more so about direction, identity, confidence, and what comes next. We’re here to support you in navigating that transition.
